Observing World Humanitarian Day

Did you know today—August 19—is World Humanitarian Day? The United Nations observance recognizes humanitarian aid workers who risk their lives for the sake of humanitarian service—and also mobilizes people to advocate for humanitarian action.

This year’s theme is one humanity. The UN is calling for global solidarity and making the commitment to support those who deal with crises daily.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says, “World Humanitarian Day is an annual reminder of the need to act to alleviate the suffering. It is also an occasion to honor the humanitarian workers and volunteers toiling on the frontlines of crises. I pay tribute to these dedicated women and men who brave danger to help others at far greater risk.”

At PGI, we have the utmost respect for these humanitarian workers and proactively work to demonstrate our transparency and commitment to respectful business practice. That’s why this year we’ve pursued—and have been awarded—our ANSI/ASIS PSC.1-2012 certification.

PSC.1 is an audit-based certification that establishes a written standard among private security companies. This standard is meant to protect fundamental freedoms and human rights, and establish a respect of national/international laws. It’s not a required certification in our industry, but one we are proud to possess.

Today, we honor those organizations and individuals who go above and beyond to advocate for humanitarian action and ethical business practices in all countries—working toward the mission of one humanity, every day.
